The musical adaptation of Ghost will end its Broadway run on August 18 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Ghost opened on April 23 and will have played 39 previews and 136 regular performances at the time of closing. The musical stars Caissie Levy and Richard Fleeshman as lovers Molly and Sam, respecitvely, as well as Tony nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Oda Mae Brown. A national tour is planning to launch during the fall of 2013.
Based on the hit 1990 film starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, Ghost follows a young couple, Sam and Molly, who are mugged one night while walking home to their New York apartment. Sam is murdered and becomes trapped in this world as a ghost, unable to leave Molly, whom he learns is in grave danger. With the help of a storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown, Sam tries to communicate with Molly from beyond in hopes of protecting her.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Ghost also co-stars Bryce Pinkham and features a book by Bruce Joel Rubin (adapted from his Oscar-winning screenplay), a score by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard and choreography by Ashley Wallen.
